Mauro Di Silvestre
Mauro Di Silvestre was born in Rome in 1968, he studied painting both in Los Angeles and in Rome, the latter city is where he lives and works.
He was awarded several public awards such as the Premio Città di Lissone in 2001 and the Premio Celeste in 2004, winning respectively the II prize as well as the one dedicated to the category of Emerging Painters. Mauro Di Silvestre has exhibited in various galleries and international museums, in 2007 he was in India, where he exhibited at the On the edge of vision exhibition, at the Victoria Memorial Museum in Calcutta and in 2011 he was in Seoul with Five Cities Five Curators.
His first solo show was held in 2007 at the Z2O Gallery in Rome, with a text in the catalog by Achille Bonito Oliva. In 2009 the exhibition Pareti Parati e Parenti, curated by Martina Cavallarin was held at the Galleria Traghetto in Venice, and in 2011 he exhibited at Simultaneità degli opposti, by Maria Chiara Valacchi at the Galleria Bianca in Palermo. In May 2016, his latest solo show, Please, was staged at the Galerie L&C Tirelli in Vevey, Switzerland and in 2017 he exhibited with Francesco Cervelli at the exhibition Nel fondo del tempo, at the Mucciaccia Contemporary in Rome.
Mauro Di Silvestre's work is characterized by a visual overlap made of decorative patterns, which emerge in images evoked by an intimate and personal memory. "The images that appear in my mind and on my canvases," Mauro Di Silvestre explains, "often have something to do with the past. It is a past made up of personal memories, but at the same time familiar to most of us.” The figures represented by him come from gestures, faces and figures of mnemonic origin, which disappear and reappear behind the blanket of a motif that often makes them transpire or glimpse.
