Danilo Bucchi
Danilo Bucchi (born in Rome, 1978) completed his studies in Rome, where he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti focusing on the techniques of drawing, painting and photography.
The artistic universe of Bucchi is characterized by a gesture that generates abstract-sign forms, born from a chromatic domination of the colors black and white. In his paintings the abstract element made from traces of writing coexist with a gestural path and the figurative element taken from the collective imagination of childhood. In the Dolls series, he tends to express his most reflective and emotional matrix in which the melancholic dolls that, with their imposing eyes characterized by an enchanting sensuality, embody a playful and feminine aspect.
In the works of Danilo Bucchi, the pictorial gesticulation is accompanied by a connection between drawing and sound. In fact, Bucchi's paintings can be defined as a stereophonic: where music and movement intertwine in order to compose an artistic imagination of humanized signs. There have been several works born from a combination of art and music: for example, the 2017 performance of the Lunar Black project, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva at the MACRO in Via Nizza in Rome.
His artistic debut came in 2003, when he began participating in several exhibitions in international cities such as: Amsterdam, The artist of Rome, Supper Club (2003); Baku, Cleopatra, from Michelangelo to contemporary art, Embassy of Italy (2004); Buenos Aires, Contemporanea Recoleta Impronte, curated by Domenico Giglio, Museum of Contemporary Art (2005); Paris, Figures 547, Institute of Italian Culture (2007); Cairo, Paraboles Exhibition, Gezira Art Center (2008) and Singapore, The Dolls, curated by Sabiana Paoli, Sabiana Paoli Art Gallery (2012).
Among Bucchi’s main exhibitions we recall: in 2008 Senza titolo, curated by Morgan Morris, Contemporary Arts Society, Rome; in 2011 Signs the black line, curated by Giorgia Calò and Domenico Scudero, MLAC, Rome and Danilo Bucchi, curated by Gianluca Marziani, Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive, Spoleto; in 2012 The Dolls, Sabiana Paoli Art Gallery, Singapore; in 2013 Danilo Bucchi, curated by Gianluca Marziani, EMMEOTTO Gallery, Rome; in 2014 Monochrome, curated by Angela Madesani, Galleria Poggiali e Forconi, Florence; in 2017 Roma Europa Digitalife, Kiz art section, curated by Raffaella Frascarelli for Nomas Foundation, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome.
Between 2014 and 2015 Danilo Bucchi was invited to carry out three major urban redevelopment projects: the permanent work called Paese dei Balochi in 2014 at the Museo dell’Altro e dell’Altrove; Assoloin 2015 for Big City Life, he was chosen to represent Italy at the Venice Biennale (15th Architecture Exhibition in the Italian Pavilion), and finally Minotauro, for Emergenze Festival. In 2018 he took part in the Macro ASILO with the project in a space-atelier, called Autoritratti.
